There was a large apartment fire on Oct. 9th off the Cape Cod Canal during the remnants of Hurricane Matthew. Irony wasn’t on Stefani’s side and he lost everything. The fire started a couple units down and due to the very old construction and insane winds the fire soon spread to his unit. He had to painfully watch, in the wee hours of the morning, the fireman break his windows to put out the blaze. He lost everything due to water and fire damage.
REWIND: Stefani finally moved into his OWN solo apartment less than a month prior to this event. He was so proud of his new place telling everyone about it, and had finally moved all his things in that week. (If you know Matt, you understand why it took him a month to move in). He did not yet have renter's insurance. Please everyone who rents, get this, it’s inexpensive and worth it.
Matt is a graphic designer and one of the best artists I’ve ever met. (I don’t think I’m alone in this statement). He had setup his second bedroom as an art studio so it was adorned with his paintings, drawings, sculptures, and sketches that he’d worked on since high school to the present. Matt’s creativity is contagious and his perspective is genius. His work, from birthday cards to full length comic books have impressed all of us. They’re all gone and ruined now. That studio was the same room that the fire department broke the window to fight the fire. In my opinion, it held the most irreplaceable of things. He also lost his computers, all his electronics, furniture, clothes, new bed, and his Ipad;- which is an essential tool of his trade- not a window to Facebook like most people use it for.
Let's all help Stefani get focused again and put things back together. He can put this money towards new art supplies, maybe a new device and a new shirt- we all know he needs a new shirt.
