Staying dry this July for cancer
As many of you know, my beautiful wife Jemma was diagnosed with Breast Cancer almost 5 months ago. I can't express in words just how proud I am of the way she has remained so positive and strong throughout all the tests, the surgery, recovery and chemotherapy so far and I know she will remain just as strong and positive throughout the radiation and hormone therapy to follow. For someone to go through something like this and remain so positive requires a lot of love, courage, determination and willpower. It also takes a lot of love and support from family and friends and we are extremely thankful for all the support given from everyone.
I can't ever imagine what I would be without my amazing, loving wife and feel so lucky and eternally grateful that she caught her cancer early and has been able to access the treatment she has needed.
Unfortunately, as many of us are aware and have experienced firsthand, there is still so much need for further research to continue the work to improve treatments, increase the survival rate and perhaps one day prevent cancer from starting in the first place.
Dry July is a great initiative and opportunity to raise money to help fund more cancer research and support programs. However, as I discovered, the actual Dry July organisation takes 20% of donations for admin fees and so I have decided to use a Go Fund Me page which takes a much smaller margin AND I will be donating the difference so that 100% of the funds I raise will go to charity. This year we have decided to fundraise for the Australian Cancer Research Foundation who funds research into all types of cancer. Any donations are very gratefully accepted.
