Stay Strong little Maximus

Sweet little Max was born on March 30th, 2019. A few weeks later he was diagnosed with Jacobsen Syndrome, which is a rare congenital condition that’s caused by the deletion of several genes in chromosome 11. It’s sometimes called partial monosomy 11q. Max suffers from thrombocytopenia, which is a platelet disorder; VSD, a hole in his heart; and metopic craniosynostosis, which is a premature fusion of his skull.

Although strong enough to leave the hospital only four days after birth, Max requires ongoing support from oxygen and feeding tubes, and needs regular trips to Denver to see specialists.

On September 2nd, Max underwent his first major surgery which was to repair his “broken heart”. (This is what his 2-year-old big brother Abel said when Mom and Dad packed up for the hospital.) Max’s next big surgery will take place in late October to repair his little skull. Before every surgery, Max requires platelet transfusions to help his blood clot.

This is an incredibly tough time for this family. Max's parents Melissa and Rob are the most selfless people I know. They would give their last dime to help someone in need without hesitation, and I want to help support them now, when they need it most. They are struggling to keep up with medical bills in addition to caring for their toddler, they have lost income due to long hospital stays, and are doing everything they can to continue taking Max to his appointments in Denver. Helping financially would lift some of the burden off of them and will allow them to continue to focus on what matters the most- making sure Max is breathing, his heart is beating and he is growing stronger every day.
