Starting Over After Irma

Just when we thought we were safe from Irma, the water started rising. It rose all day, across the parking lot, up the sidewalk, right to our door. We blocked the door with sandbags, but the water started rising in the closet and the pantry, so we knew we needed to get out. When we returned in the morning there was a foot of water in our apartment.

We were able to save some of our clothes, our pets, and my school books and laptop, but all of our furniture will have to be thrown out, as well as many of our belongings (all of our shoes and many of our clothes as well).

We need a new couch, tables, chairs, bookshelves, as well as kitchen appliances. The only large item that survived is our bed. Our renter's insurance doesn't cover water damage, so we won't receive any compensation.

We're working on a new place to live (in a temporary shelter now), but any little bit you could give would help. Thank you so much!
