Stanford Medical Camp

Hello my name is Sofie Green. I am a student at Summit Shasta high school and my dream is to become a trauma surgeon. For the last few years I have been exploring my love of medicine through research, books, conferences, and hands on practice. 
Last year I went to a conference for young women interested in STEM careers called Expanding Your Horizons. It was a eye opening experience where I got to talk to surgeons and learn about real life medical procedures. The photo above was taken durring one of the simulations and sits in a frame on my desk to remind me of my dreams each and every morning. In addition to this conference I have also began to practice surgical sutures and ties on a simulation meant for medical students. I have had so much fun learning different methods and attempting them on my own. Below is a photo of some of the surgical ties I learned how to place. 

Earlier this year I found an organization called Evision that offers a program in collaboration with Stanford Medicine that allows students my age to stay on the Stanford campus for 10 days working with trauma doctors to explore the possibilities of this unique feild. I believe this is the next step for me because it will allow me to learn so much about the emergency medical feild and will give me so much hands on experience. This amazing program cost a little over $5000 dollars and my family cannot afford the full tuition. Having the opportunity to experince this camp and all it has to offer would be a dream come true. Any contribution you could make would be so appriciate and would help me become the surgeon I dream of being.
