Stand with Philip Grymes

This is for Philip Grymes and his family as they navigate the unpredictable journey of brain cancer. #greyotterstrong

On November 13, Philip had a seizure while having dinner at home with his family and friends. Thankfully, Jenn and Perrin, weren't alone when this happened and their friends, Kirsten and Cory helped rush Philip to the ER. After undergoing a CT Scan, EEG and an MRI, the doctors confirmed a 1x2cm mass in his left temporal lobe. He was released from the ICU and scheduled for a consultation with a Neurosurgeon on November 18. He was immediately scheduled for brain surgery on November 21 to remove the mass and determine if it was benign or malignant.

Philip was stable throughout the surgery. The surgeon was able to remove the mass and most of the amorphous mass, but the preliminary pathology report indicated the tumor was Stage 4 Glioblastoma and Philip also suffered a post-op stroke.

Post-op day 4: the MRI showed COMPLETE EXTRACTION of the brain tumor! There were some cells in the area that will need to be treated with chemo and radiation. Philip became aware of his diagnosis and limitations at this point and immediately started fighting the odds stacked against him.

He made a dramatic recovery from the stroke and was up walking, talking, and doing things for himself in just a few days. He was released from the ICU to a regular hospital room and continued to improve rapidly. He was discharged to Siskin Hospital on November 27 to undergo Physical Therapy for the stroke. Philip will begin chemo and radiation treatment in a couple of weeks after he completes the rehabilitation plan at Siskin.

Philip is a kind, caring, and proud person. He would never ask for help. It's not Philip that's asking, it's his OC Family. We are grateful to have him as our captain and want to help the family navigate the unexpected journey they have found themselves embarking on. We've had lots of people reach out to ask what they can do to help. This is how. The unexpected cancer diagnosis and extensive medical expenses that the family will encounter on this journey will be great and challenging. We want to offer them some light and love during this stormy season.

Philip draws strength from his family, friends and all the love and support he has received from everyone that knows him.  Please keep all the love flowing and lifting Philip and his family up into the healing light! ❤️We are stronger together! #greyotterstrong
