Stand with Emmett

Donation protected
My name is Elizabeth LaMothe, I am writing on behalf of my one year old nephew Emmett Chaize.

Emmett was  6 months old when he had his first visit to the ER in Las Vegas, NV.  Well... it led to the beginning of a very long road after the doctors found a strange fracture in his tibia and fibula. After multiple doctor appointments, Xrays, and MRIs, Emmett was diagnosed with a very rare disease called Congenital Psuedarthrosis of the Tibia, also known as CPT.  He was born with this disease but didn't show any signs at all, so eventually it broke. This condition affects only 1 in every 250,000 you can read more about it here: Congenital Pseudarthrosis of the Tibia

After the initial consult with a pediatric orthopedic doctor, it was stated that most surgeries would be unsuccessful and end in amputation due to frustration. They casted him up for the entire summer and sent the family home while the doctor tried to find someone that could help outside of Las Vegas. In the meantime, hopeful for other alternatives, Emmett’s mom and dad spent countless nights of research, contacted doctors out of many hospitals and universities and were eventually able to find a world renown doctor who specializes in the reconstruction of the tibia for children specifically with CPT. They packed up as a family this past summer and went to visit Dr. Feldman at the Paley Orthopedic and Spine Institute in Palm Beach, FL to see how they would feel. They were overwhelmed with the feeling that this was the right place to take Emmett, and he agreed to take him on as a patient and was able to schedule his first surgery for June 2019, when he would be strong enough for the anesthesia for this lengthy surgery.

You can read about Dr. Paley's impressive method and success rate here: Dr. Paley's method.

This is going to be an extremely long journey for this happy baby boy and young family of four as this will be the first of multiple surgeries in Florida that Emmett will need to undergo.

We are asking for any help at all to help this family as they travel back and forth and incur costs from the surgeries, doctor appointments, flights, and other accommodations, and from the many braces Emmett will need as he will wear one into puberty to protect his leg. Each brace is about $600-800 after insurance, and right now he needs one every few months as he is growing a lot. The initial surgery will be about a 2.5 week stay in Florida with follow ups and revision surgeries ahead as he grows.

We have so much faith in Dr. Paley and Dr. Feldman's methods and in our strong-willed baby Emmett and ask for your prayers in the months and years ahead. We look forward to the day that Emmett can stand and walk on his own, because we know it will happen! We appreciate all of your love and support through this time and thank you for standing with Emmett!

Additionally,  any monies not used for the outlined costs above will go to The Paley Foundation
