Hi guys, it's Amanda.
As most of you may know, my dad has been in the hospital already for a little over 2 weeks.
For those who do not know, my dad has been hospitalized with Guillian Barre Syndrome, where your immune system attacks your nerves paralyzing you. The first time we found out about this was a few years back in 2013 when we experienced it for the first time with him. Thankfully he fully recovered after that time. Unfortunately, he got it again and now it's way worse than before causing him to be intubated and has been using a ventilator to breathe for him because his lungs are not strong enough for him to breathe on his own. As well as having a pneumonia and collapsed lungs at the base. They started him on the first treatment he had when he aquired this back in 2013. It didn't seem to work. The doctors waited a few days and tried the treatment again but the kidney doctor decided it would be best to stop that treatment due to his kidney function declining. They are now doing a treatment called Plasmapheresis where its pretty much like dialysis and they clean out the plasma in your blood and replace it with new plasma. They will also be doing a Tracheotomy and a PEG because they cannot have him intubated much longer due to complications that can arise with having the tube down your throat for so long. After all of this, when the doctors decide he is ready, they will transfer him to a rehab hospital where they will try to slowly take the ventilator off and give him physical therapy as well.
With him not working, it is going to be difficult for me to continue to pay the house and the bills he has been paying and I honestly don't know how long he is going to be out for. Now, it takes a lot of courage for me to ask and even create a GoFundMe but if anyone could please be kind enough to help out and donate to take at least some of the stress off of me and be able to concentrate more on my dad it would be greatly appreciated.
