Stand by Aksel: Fund His Recovery

Don protégé
Hello, my name is Alex, and I am raising money for my friend Aksel Childers. Unfortunately, Aksel is currently in the hospital undergoing hand surgery on both hands after a terrible accident occurred on his birthday. I'm sure my friend might not want me to do this, but I know how expensive things like this can end up, especially with no health insurance, so I am asking anyone and everyone to help in any way they can.

Here is what happened, on Monday, June 23rd, Aksel's birthday, he saved up enough to rent a yacht and invite a bunch of friends for a day on the lake. In his own words, the first half of the day could not have been more perfect. The weather was beautiful, everyone who was invited was able to make it, and we all had the best time doing something Aksel had always wanted to do. The accident didn't occur until the end of our trip when the boat was docking. As the deck hands on the dock were roping the boat in, the captain called out to Aksel asking him to grab a rope they were throwing up to the front. Aksel, who has never docked a boat before, quickly went over to help as that's the kind of person he is. I want to preface this by saying docking the boat was not his responsibility in any way, he paid for a service and it would have been completely understandable if he had refused to help. That aside, he did try to help, and when he was tying the rope around the cleat, he didn't realize that there was already a loop in the rope for this purpose. As he was wrapping around the cleat, the deck hands called out saying to use the loop. Aksel then grabbed the loop and tried to pull it over the cleat with both hands, but unfortunately at this point, the boat started pulling away from the dock before he could get his fingers free. The rope cinched around his fingers and gave way, severely injuring multiple digits on both hands, and amputating the tip of his right pinky from the first knuckle. As much as this hurt him, he instantly ran to the sink and gripped a towel in both hands to try to stop the bleeding. At this point, none of us knew how bad it actually was, but we later found out that 2 arteries in his fingers were severed, so the fact that he immediately put pressure on the wounds potentially saved his life. Luckily, the boating dock was directly next to an emergency room. We took him there as fast as possible and after a couple hours they transferred him to another hospital where there was a hand surgeon. At the second hospital they performed emergency surgery to stitch up his arteries and stop the bleeding, but due to others having priority for surgery in the hospital, Aksel is now having surgery on his hands today, June 25th. We are all happy that Aksel is okay, and we are truly lucky that this is all that happened.

Any money raised with this gofundme account will be used to help Aksel pay for his medical expenses and any money he will potentially miss out on from work, as he is a stagehand and his hands are very important when it comes to work. Aksel also has a deep love of music. His main instrument is guitar, but he also plays the piano among others. Luckily, most of his fingers on his fretting hand (Left) are in tact, so hopefully once healed he will still be able to play the guitar. As for the piano, he may never be able to play it the same. Any of you who know Aksel knows that he is one the kindest souls you'll ever meet and that he would do anything for his friends and family. No one deserves this, but this especially should not have happened to Aksel. Any amount that you can afford to give in order to help Aksel overcome this moment in life will be extremely appreciated. When it comes down to it, all we have is each other, and I am confident we can help lift this burden off of Aksel's shoulders.
