Hallo zusammen,
meine Frau leidet seit September 2019 an einer Vielzahl von Symptomen die sich hier in Deutschland niemand erklären konnte.
Schwindel, Kopfschmerzen, Sehstörungen, Kieferschmerzen, Herzrhythmusstörungen, Taubheit in Armen und Beinen, starke Schmerzen in der oberen HWS,
Nach vielen falschen Diagnosen und OP's konnten wir anhand eines upright MRT eine Instabilität der oberen beiden Halswirbel darstellen.
Was ist eine Kopfgelenksinstabilität?
Als Kopfgelenke bezeichnet man den Bereich rund um die beiden obersten
Wirbel unserer Wirbelsäule, dem ersten Halswirbel C1 (Atlas) und dem
zweiten Halswirbel C2 (Axis). Dieser Bereich sorgt für die Stabilität und
Beweglichkeit unseres Kopfes. Bewegung findet dabei zwischen dem
Schädel selbst und dem Atlas, sowie dem Atlas und dem Axis statt. Teil des
Axis-Wirbels ist der Dorn, der Dens axis, um den sich unser Kopf dreht.
Die Halswirbelsäule ist stark beweglich und hat eine große Last zu tragen
dadurch kommen Verletzungen leicht zustande. Eine besondere Aufgabe
bei der Stabilität zwischen Atlas und Axis haben die sogenannten
Flügelbänder (Ligamenta alaria) links und rechts der obersten Wirbel.
Darunter liegt das Ligamentum transversum atlantis. Bei einer Vielzahl der
Betroffenen ist eine Dehnung- mit oder ohne Riss- dieser Strukturen für die
Kopfgelenksinstabilität verantwortlich. Die Bänder, Sehnen und Kapseln
sind außerdem schlecht durchblutet, so das die Heilung einer Schädigung
auf diesen Ebenen komplex und schwierig ist.
Eine Instabilität des Kopfgelenks hat zur Folge, dass neben hochsensiblen
Strukturen wie Nerven und Gefäßen auch das Rückenmark und der
Hirnstamm bedrängt und abgeklemmt werden können. Das führt zu
unzähligen Symptomen, die von chronischen Schmerzen bis hin zu
neurologischen Ausfallerscheinungen reichen können.
Diese Instabilitäten können massive physische
Gesundheitseinschränkungen auslösen und die allgemeine körperliche
Belastbarkeit stark herabsetzen. In der Folge führen sie für die
Betroffenen oftmals zu erheblichen sozialen und- wirtschaftlichen Folgen,
wie Verlust des Arbeitsplatzes und Einschränkungen des Soziallebens.
Während in anderen Ländern, z.B. den USA, dieses Krankheitsbild
mittlerweile bekannt und akzeptiert ist, sowie intensive
Grundlagenforschung auf diesem Gebiet betrieben wird, zeigt sich in
Deutschland ein komplett gegensätzliches Bild.

Wir wurden von der Medizin und dem deutschen Gesundheitssystem komplett im Stich gelassen.
Alle Therapieversuche im Laufe der Jahre sind gescheitert. Insgesamt haben wir schon ca. 20.000 – 30.000 EUR aus eigener Tasche ausgegeben für Behandlungen bei Ärzten und Therapeuten als Privatleistung, da die Krankenkasse keinerlei Kosten für die noch zu wenig erforschte Krankheit übernimmt.

Hello everyone,
since September 2019, my wife has been suffering from a variety of symptoms that no one in Germany could explain.
Dizziness, headaches, vision problems, jaw pain, heart rhythm disturbances, numbness in her arms and legs, and severe pain in the upper cervical spine.
After many wrong diagnoses and surgeries, we were able to demonstrate an instability of the upper two cervical vertebrae using an upright MRI.
What is craniovertebral instability?
The term craniovertebral joints refers to the area surrounding the top two vertebrae of our spine, the first cervical vertebra C1 (atlas) and the second cervical vertebra C2 (axis). This area ensures the stability and mobility of our head. Movement occurs between the skull itself and the atlas, as well as between the atlas and the axis. Part of the axis vertebra is the odontoid process (dens axis), around which our head rotates.
The cervical spine is highly mobile and bears a heavy load, making injuries easy to occur. The so-called alar ligaments located on the left and right sides of the uppermost vertebra, along with the transverse ligament of the atlas, play a special role in the stability between the atlas and axis. In a large number of affected individuals, stretching - with or without tearing - of these structures is responsible for craniovertebral instability. Furthermore, the ligaments, tendons, and capsules are poorly vascularized, making healing of damage at these levels complex and difficult.
Instability of the craniovertebral joint results in compression and impingement of not only highly sensitive structures such as nerves and blood vessels but also the spinal cord and brainstem. This leads to numerous symptoms ranging from chronic pain to neurological impairments.
These instabilities can cause significant physical health impairments and greatly reduce overall physical resilience. As a result, they often lead to significant social and economic consequences for those affected, such as job loss and limitations in social life.
While this condition is now widely recognized and accepted in other countries, such as the USA, with intensive basic research being conducted in this field, the situation in Germany is completely different.

We have been completely let down by the medical profession and the German healthcare system.
All therapy attempts over the years have failed. In total, we have already spent approximately 20,000 - 30,000 EUR out of our own pockets for treatments with doctors and therapists as private services, as health insurance does not cover any costs for this still insufficiently researched disease.
Now, a great opportunity has presented itself.

Summary assessment:
Correct positioning of the craniovertebral joints in a neutral position with a centrally positioned dens axis in the presence of kyphotic cervical alignment.
Atlantodental dysfunction with partially asymmetric and overall limited range of motion in the craniovertebral joints; however, no evidence of functional dens displacement with centrally positioned dens axis in both neutral and functional positions. Associated irritation in the adjacent paradental area.
Significant scarred changes in the alar ligaments, with pronounced thickening and enlargement of the transverse ligament of the atlas. Localized scar tissue and fibrotic changes at the posterior apex of the dens, accompanied by marked thickening of the posterior dental capsule structures.
Significantly narrowed subarachnoidal space in the neutral position, with at least partial loss of the subarachnoidal buffer zone during rotational movements, suggesting potential functional contact with the spinal cord during right and left rotations.
Asymmetry of the vertebral arteries in the examined area (V4 segment), with slightly reduced flow on the left side, possibly indicative of congenital left-sided hypoplasia.
Every euro would bring us one step closer to a life free of symptoms.
