Dear family, friends, and SUSD parents,
As you may have already heard, Stacy Short was recently diagnosed with a late stage of cancer. Stacy has been a dedicated teacher at Foothill School for 20 years, teaching both second and third grade. Many Foothill children have had the opportunity to have Ms. Short as their teacher and know her as a funny and dedicated teacher.
Stacy had been feeling sick since February. After seeing several doctors and being misdiagnosed many times, including pneumonia which did not get better after two courses of antibiotics, doctors finally did a CT scan and found spots on her lungs. This was a shocking realization for her family, friends, and coworkers with just 9 days left in the school year.
After a biopsy it was confirmed that, indeed, it was lung cancer. Stacy has never smoked; not even once! Because she never smoked and it is a fast growing lung cancer, usually afflicting smokers, doctors believe it could be caused by a genetic mutation, predisposing her to this type of cancer. Family is hoping that she will be eligible for gene replacement therapy, which has had promising results.
As you know, and many have experienced, Ms. Short took a personal interest in each and every young mind, wanting them to find the joy in learning!
We are a special group that has been touched by Stacy. We are her friends, family, and/or Foothill family and we now have an opportunity to reach out and give back to Stacy in this time of need.

Our goal is $75,000. We know it is a hefty one, but it is needed to help cover her PPO 20% copay, cancer treatment, and medication.
