Delia Anne Johnson's Memorial Fund, The U-School

On November 27th 1949 my mother came into this world and with God’s grace on November 27th, 2020 she transitioned to a better place. There are no words that can effectively capture the hole in our hearts that she has left, so unexpectedly. As my family and I start to process a world without her, we have decided to focus on what she would have wanted to be her legacy, how she would like to be remembered and celebrated. She was loving, dedicated, spirited and spunky, funny, giving, selfless, beautiful and caring to name a just a few of our attributes. Its these characteristics that made my mother such a great educator, mentor & mother.

Delia Anne Johnson, also known as Miss. D, DeDe, Momma D or just ‘D’ truly believed that children are the future and just like The ‘U’ school her mission was believing that happy, healthy and inspired children make the world a better place. The U School is a “new-model” early childhood and family learning center in Ann Arbor, Michigan. They offer an innovative educational experience for families with children ages 3-5 years old. Their mission is to offer an early childhood learning environment that builds a positive sense of self in children and a connectedness to community. What makes this particular project so special is that some of the biggest contributors/educators grew up with her daughter and were a part of the neighborhood. They have found a way to play it forward and we hope to do the same in her memory.
