Dear alumni, former and current parents, grandparents, family and friends of St. Mary’s Central,
We are reaching out to you because we are in need of help. We have had a few maintenance problems that are outside the realm of our normal budget.
As you can see from the picture, our blacktop, where most of you enjoyed games of kickball, soccer, jump rope, and the like, is in dire need of repair. For several years, St. Mary’s was a recycling center with several bins for recycling paper. The years of the receptacles and the big trucks that collected the paper took its toll, and the blacktop is no longer able to be used by our students. The students now have recess in the parking area. We no longer have the recycling bins because of the damage they caused and also because of safety concerns. We would like to fix the blacktop so our current and future SMC students can enjoy their recess safely. Unfortunately, the cost is approximately $12,000, which is not in our usual budget to operate the school.
In addition to our blacktop resurfacing, we are also having furnace issues. As you may know, our buildings are aging, and one of our two gym furnaces needs to be replaced. We also were vandalized recently, and the parts of the furnace that are behind a fence outside of the school were damaged. The cost for these furnace fixes is an additional $12,000-$14,000.
We are reaching out to our alumni and their families to help continue the great tradition that St. Mary’s Central has had for more than fifty years. We are thriving at SMC! Our school has been and continues to be an excellent place to learn, grow, and live our faith. We are very proud of our students, past and present. We still hear from all of our local high schools that they can tell who the “St. Mary’s kids” are as we know many of you heard when you moved on to high school. May God continue to bless you and your families and our SMC family.
