In July 2018, I was inspired to help cancer patients since my mom is a breast cancer survivor twice now and felt the calling to start the St Joseph Prayer Shawl Ministry in Stuart, FL. What started with a small blurb in the bulletin and four ladies show up to the first meeting, now we have an amazing growing group 20+ of talented women who continuously crochet and knit shawls and chemo caps for cancer patients at the Robert and Carol Weissman cancer center at Cleveland Clinic Martin North in Stuart. We have also branched out to making baby hats and blankets for newborns at the labor and delivery units of both Martin North and St Lucie Medical Center in Port St Lucie, FL. Also a few ladies enjoy making adult hats and scarves that we send for the Hats 4 The Homeless which distributes these items at St Francis Xavier Soup Kitchen in NYC. To date, as a group, we have made and delivered for 1,000 shawls,800 baby blankets and six boxfuls of hats and scarves. It is truly amazing to be part of such a rewarding endeavor.
To help defray the shipping cost for the hats and scarves to NYC and to continue buying yarn to fuel this great mission, donations are greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your prayers and generosity.
