St Austell Boxing Club

Donation protected
My name is Jimmy Waugh -  I started boxing at age 7 in London and went from strength to strength, being offered to partake in the Olympics 1976, becoming Semi-pro and  partaking in England boxing association level scheme - Now awarded with a Level 3. I moved to St Austell in 2005, with my children and noticed a gap in the offering to local children and young people in sport - I had a pair of gloves gifted to me from my sister for my 21st birthday, a bag of skipping ropes and rented out a scout hall out of my own pocket to provide to the local youth - within the first year I had 30 children - in 2008 I began renting my own premises to allow further children the opportunity to join - now in 2021 we have 120 children and adults weekly, offer afterschool clubs to children. I am very passionate about mental health and being inclusive of children with additional needs. The club does not only teach young people boxing, the club has strict respect rules and teaches children lifelong expectations - the clubs moto consists of ;
TRUST - COURAGE - PRIDE - HONOUR - LOYALTY - STRENGTH and PASSION, the club also includes training, healthy living  and allows people to train without the aspirations of boxing in the future, giving them an alternative fitness opportunity.
The club plays a huge part in the local community and I personally have a past involving anxiety/depression and want to help combat the daily struggles and lack of opportunities in the area for young people. Boxing was originally a male sport but combatting equality, diversity and discrimination boxing is now becoming inclusive of female acceptance across the UK and wider. We are a non discriminative club and people from all walks of life and abilities are seen as equal in our club. My aim is to fund my experienced boxers to gain the qualifications to teach alongside me and to have the qualifications to be able to make an impact in the future. The boxing club is currently being ran as a non-profit organisation, my involvement is motivated by passion, my reason for creating the funding page is to allow the club to expand - due to lockdown and costs still continuing to be paid despite the club not running, we do not have the resources to be able to expand the club - my aim is to eventually own a space for young people in the future - however right now the realistic aim is to raise the funds to allow us to pay a year of rental costs for a larger premises allowing us time to invite new young people and gain the revenue to pay the overheads - the money would be spent on a year lease for a larger unit and wages for a young person to coach alongside me and give us the opportunity to make a difference in more children's life's. i feel that the impact of Covid has deteriorated not only the national society of mental health awareness but St Austell is being forgotten and over the past year has increased dramatically with antisocial behaviour, drink and drugs. I want to be able to have an opportunity to be a part of improving our livelihood and a positive impact on our local young people and adults that live in and around St Austell. Our children our our future we need to give them the best start in life given what we have around us. The population of St Austell is just over 27,000 if we all helped each other donating just £1 we could make this dream a reality for our next generation.
Thank you for taking the time to read my aspirations for the next generation, I appreciate any donations made and will make a considerable impact for our community.
