History of St. Anne’s Church begins with the appointment of Rev. David Smith to the Parish of St. Matthew’s in 1854. On 7th February 1859, St, Anne's Chapel School was opened and sometime during 1914 a fire of unknown origin razed the building. It was rebuilt one year later with the Church and School separately as it still is today.
After over 100 years of service to the Agricola community, the church has been integrally involved in youth service. The youth group and music class has provided a space for youths of the community to gather and engage in positive and enriching activities. the youths have learnt how to play instruments such as guitar, key board and the recorder among others. They have learnt leadership skills and service through giving back to the community. Most recently, in an effort to give back to the community even with limited resources, the church has opened its yard for a youth football team to practice and has also been able to secure football gears for the youths involved in the football team.
Due to lack of funding over the years, the church building has deteriorated and is in need of extensive repairs. we are seeking public assistance to rehabilitate the building so that our service and community outreach can continue to grow and impact the community.
the estimated cost for the most urgent repairs is estimated to be around Guyana dollars G$14,888,055. So far, we have been able to complete repairs to the main roof as well as the northern and southern naves. These repairs have cost an estimate G$6,000,000.
our go fund me campaign is seeking to raise G$10,000,000. This will enable us to complete the other repairs on the church building and improvements to the church yard.
