Sprout needs Surgery

Donation protected
So, Suzanna and I adopted an adorably sweet dog named Sprout. She was classified as a bite risk, but we worked through her trauma. She loves life, loves blanket snuggles, and is two years old.

This past year we noticed that she was limping. We worked with our Vet and found out that she has a medial luxating patella. So she needs surgery or the injury will keep getting worse.

As a two year old puppy her quality of life has been impacted from day one.  She was moved to Michigan from Louisiana after a hurricane. While we have no idea what happened to her in her first six months of life, the transition of becoming a Michigan Dog was rough.

When she first arrived she wouldn't leave the back of her pen at the shelter. She completely shut down. We know this because there was a behavior tech from the shelter that now works with Suzanna and was at the shelter when Sprout arrived.

After a while in Foster Care she was starting to open up a little. We weren't even looking for a dog, but since I was working as a dog trainer at the time, Foster Sitting for her Foster parents seemed like an amazing way for me to get experience working with a reactive dog. She started to get used to our routines, however, when we took her in for a routine check with the shelter, Shit hit the fan.

She was classified as a bite risk because of escalating anxiety behaviors. The shelter told us they were going to put her down. We fought for her life that day and walked out of the shelter with a dog.

Today with the help of some as needed anxiety medication she let a strange, tall, white male carry her to the car. (Tall, white, males are her biggest reactivity trigger.) The vet staff at the Orthopedic Clinic that we went to said she did a great job even though we weren't in there with her.

She needs surgery soon to help us get her the quality of life that she deserves. We are hoping that next summer she will be able to play in the dog park again, and be the puppy she was born to be.

We have a long road ahead of us with her, and we are saving everything that we can. We are just trying to get some help.
