I am a mother of a 7 year old who attends a support unit at Springwood Public School.
My aim is to raise enough funds to purchase much needed outdoor shading, a sandpit and play equipment for the 20 students that attend this unit.
As you can see in the photo the children have only a small area to play which has no play equipment or shading for then to play outside together.
We have worked with our local Occupational Therapists to create a sensory integration play area with equipment where the children can play in sand, slide, bounce, swing and climb.
Inclusive play is very important and enables children with special needs to build social skills and increases positive attitudes and interaction between all children regardless of abilities.
Playing is fun but it is also one of the main reasons in which children can learn.
Play improves cognitive, physical and social development and gives space to a childs imagination and fuels creativity.
All students deserve an equal learning experience.
