Spread the Music for Mike

My name is Cere Carrington, and I am humbled to represent my fellow classmates of Haslett High School - Class of 2002. On February 17th, we lost a classmate, we lost a friend. Mike Eyia was not just someone we happened to go to school with years ago, but an individual that had a profound impact on most all of us. We didn't just attend school together, we grew up together. Now, we are coming together to honor one of our own.
For those of us that knew Mike, he was the kind of person that was pure magnetism. He was an infectious smile. He was brave adventure. He was playful mischief. He was unparalleled fun. He was a devoted friend. He was unfathomable talent. And he was truly one of a kind.
Mike was raised in a loving family, full of talent and the love of music. He exhibited this same love and talent from a very early age. For us, his classmates, this was undeniably evident by the time we hit middle school. He was very active in both band and choir. He played piano and clarinet and so many other instruments, but it seemed his true love would be the saxophone.
After high school, Mike's musical talents took him far and wide. He performed with legendary musicians in dream worthy venues. He traveled to parts of the world that many only dream of and he captured countless hearts in the friends he made along the way.
After this loss, our class was certain that we would honor Mike in a way that would pass on a piece of him. With the support of Haslett Public Schools, we ask you to join our class in raising funds in Mike's memory. These funds will be used to help provide students in the Haslett school system with an instrument to assist in their pursuit of music. Our purpose is to put the musical tools they need into the hands of our local youth that would not otherwise have the opportunity.
