Blankets for the Homeless in LA
Donation protected
Hi friends,
I would like to help out our brothers and sisters on the streets before the temperature starts to drop. I think we have become so used to seeing homeless people all over Los Angeles, we have detached ourselves from this crisis. They are cold, they are hungry, they are human. We often make the excuse that they have drug problems or that they are lazy, but that does not change the fact that we have a warm bed to come home to and they are sleeping on the cold, hard ground every night. The alley behind my work is lined with homeless people. Jimmy hangs his mirror in a fence so that he can brush his teeth every morning. He shares a pair of socks with Raquel. She cries, "duele en mi corazon." I gave some old blankets to one of the other men who lives in this alley. It meant so little to me - he was practically doing me a favor by taking these blankets off my hands, but the way his face lit up in gratitude that day is something I cannot express. It was as if he had won the lottery. "God Bless you!" he exclaimed as he took the pile of blankets out of my hands. My heart broke. The joy and excitement in his eyes could only be understood by someone who has ever been really, really cold. I could not relate, but I can continue to spread this love to as many people as possible. Please help me on this journey to keep our friends and neighbors warm this winter. A small gesture from you can mean months of warmth and comfort to someone who is living on the streets.
My number one priority is to keep as many people as we can warm this winter. I will be collecting all through November and distributing blankets, care kits, socks, food, and water beginning of December.
What I'm hoping to be able to distribute
100 Blankets
300 Pairs of Underwear
300 Pairs of Socks
100 Pairs of Sweatpants
100 Beanies
& 100 Care Kits containing:
Toothbrush
Toothpaste
Chapstick
Hand Wipes
Facial Tissues
Combs
Deodorant
Shaving Kits
Maxi Pads
Cleansing Wipes
Water Bottles
Granola Bars
Peanut Butter Crackers
Applesauce
& a Warm Meal
This list is a rough list of the items I will be getting. I will continue to browse wholesale stores/websites for better deals to maximize quality and quantity, as well as add on any essential items I may have missed.
Anything extra will go towards warm food to be passed out with the care kits, extra toiletries, extra snacks, extra water, and as many blankets as possible!
My goal is currently to reach at least 100 people, but with your generosity we can probably double that!!
Everything helps! $1 means someone gets clean socks for tired, soggy feet! Please please please help anyway you can.
So much love & gratitude for you all,
Rachel
