Dear Friends,
The future of our health and well-being depends on our continuing relationship to our food from the ground up. As the new decade unfolds, we are creating an exciting new documentary, " The Spirit of Rice". The film will present a compelling narrative of a central food on our planet and its key role in shaping and influencing personal, community, and planetary health. The film will weave together several dimensions:
* It will show how to grow brown rice in your backyard or neighborhood garden. Today most food, including organic brown rice, is grown and cultivated on an industrial scale. Commercial rice is often seeded by airplanes and harvested by giant combines. This film will show how individuals and families can seed, plant, and harvest rice on a much smaller and intimate scale in a variety of climates and environments.
*Christian Elwell, co-founder of South River Miso Company, has been growing paddy and dryland rice for over thirty years in the Northeast (where conventional wisdom said rice could not grow) and has developed a spiritual relationship with the plant, as well as the soil, water and other elements, that he will share as he guides us through the seven stages of rice over the course of a full year.
*Unlike commercially grown brown rice, Christian's strain of heirloom rice has awns, small needle-like antennae that extend from each flower and contribute to the formation of each grain, enabling each seed to receive cosmic forces and the patterns of cosmic life.
Plants have so much to offer us, not only in better physical health, but also for the medicinal energies and higher frequencies they bring to our evolving consciousness.
We invite you to contribute to this project. Filming will begin during the winter solstice at South River Farm in Conway, MA. You can follow the project on our Go Fund Me page.
