Specialist alcoholism treatment for Matt Silva

Donation protected
Help us raise £10,000 to enable Matt Silva to receive specialist treatment for Alcoholism.

Like many across both rugby codes, we read Matt Silva's Wales Online interview with Simon Thomas about his current battle with Alcoholism and were moved by his bravery and candour in discussing his fight against this cruel disease.  Those of you not familiar with Matt's story, you can read more here: https://www.walesonline.co.uk/sport/rugby/rugby-news/welsh-rugby-coach-depths-alcoholism-18945435.

Now, as Matt faces his toughest challenge to date, we would like to try and raise the money needed so Matt can receive specialist treatment at the Priory Hospital in Bristol. The Priory Group has an established reputation as one of the leading rehabilitation centres in the country and would provide world class care for Matt.

We are aware that times are tough for many, with the COVID-19 pandemic creating many additional challenges, but any donation, of any size, would be greatly appreciated. If you are able to donate, please remember to add gift aid.

Our goal is to raise at least £10,000, but if we can surpass this amount, this would be hugely appreciated.

Matt is a highly regarded individual and will be known to many within Pontypool.

Matt started his senior career at Pontypool RFC, famously taking the field against the then World Champions, New Zealand, in a tour match at Pontypool Park in 1989. At just 18 years of age, the Tremorfa product started in the unfamiliar position of fly-half as he came face to face with the likes of Frano Botica, Zinzan Brooke and John Gallagher, in front of over 20,000 spectators at the club's famous home.

After his time at Pontypool Park, Silva, like many before him, went north to play Rugby League, featuring for Yorkshire side Halifax. He would finish his playing career back in Union, before moving into coaching with the Welsh Rugby Union, alongside head coach roles with Bridgend Ravens and RGC in the Indigo Premiership.

Matt has been an excellent servant to Welsh rugby and we hope you will join us in repaying his fine service with a donation towards his forthcoming treatment.

Thank you for you generosity.
