This is my son, James, who is 6 years old. He is a very happy boy who unfortunately has many complex medical needs; his current diagnoses include Down's Syndrome, life threatening and life limiting metabolic diseases and, most recently, renal failure.
James spends a lot of time in hospital in PICU and there were so many occasions where we thought we would lose him. Our little fighter proved us all wrong, although his health remains volatile and we dont know what the future holds.
Despite all of this, James in now approaching his 7th Birthday which is a miracle. This means that he is getting bigger and needing new equipment.
At the moment, James is currently sleeping in a small child's cot, which is totally unsuitable for him. However the only other options are a 'normal' bed, which wouldn't be safe, or a 'medical' bed, which costs more than we could ever possibly afford.
I have tried all other options to secure a bed for James that is suitable for his needs and allows us to care for him whilst keeping him safe, but we have been unsuccessful. These needs include wearing oxygen, being peg fed and helping him to vomit, which happens numerous times per night.
So i'm doing something that is completely out of my comfort zone and am asking if you can help. I have been told that in order to have the 'medical' bed that he needs, it is going to cost almost £3500. The bed itself is almost £3000, the mattress over £300 and delivery almost £200.
If you could help James in any way, I can't explain to you just how much it would be appreciated. Not only is this something which is vital to his quality of life, but I think the least that my little boy deserves is a comfortable, safe bed, where he can get the rest, love and care that he needs.
I want to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you who has taken the time to read this and, if you are able to, donate. It means the absolute world to all of us xxx
