WHO WE ARE
SIMABÔ is an organization dedicated to the care and protection of the local animal population based in Cape Verde, a group of islands on the west coast of Africa.
We work hard every day to keep the island's canine and feline population numbers under control and to offer a shelter to animals who need veterinary care.
THE PROBLEM
Although we have sterilized more than 15,000 animals during 13 years, dog population on the streets of São Vicente remains a matter of concern.
Despite the improvements, we continue to rescue dogs victims of road accidents or in an advanced state of illness every day and we permanently receive requests for help to collect litters of puppies and kittens found abandoned.
With this project, we intend to sterilize more animals, in order to prevent the birth of abandoned litters and stop mishandling.
HELP TO SPAY MORE ANIMALS
In our free veterinarian clinic we spay an average of 8 animals per day all year round.
However, it is when we go to communities in a castration campaign that we can have a stronger impact. In these campaigns, where the population is previously prepared and involved, we managed to castrate an average of 20 animals per day. By castrating twice as many animals daily we have a greater impact, but we also spend twice as much resources.
We are eager to work and we do not want financial difficulties to limit our mission.
WHERE THE MONEY GOES
Each neutered animal has an average cost for SIMABÔ of 20 €. This cost includes:
- Medicines (anesthetics, antibiotics, deworming and others)
- Consumables (gauze, gloves, catheters, sutures, blades and others)
- Veterinarian's fees.
With this project we intend to increase our capacity to spay/neuter more in the context of castration campaigns within the communities.
Our mission is to protect and bring a better quality of life to our animals. Castration is one of the best forms of protection that we can put in place for all of them.
