Space Junk Album Release & Broadcast Tour

Donation protected
Hi, my name’s Sam Lou Talbot, a Glasgow-based singer-songwriter, performance artist, and popular music scholar. I’m raising funds to produce, release & tour my next album - SPACE JUNK - on neon blue limited-edition custom vinyl and around the Isle of Skye in secret locations TBA as I go.

SPACE JUNK is a cosmic, self-produced 14-track Fender Twin driven experimental album of spontaneous songs, spirituals & sonic pioneering, which I’m going to bring into the world as a physical release.

I’ll also be turning the van into a roaming personal theatre with impromptu outdoor screenings of my latest official music video, Blue Valentine (2022), directed by Scottish filmmaker and BAFTA New Talent Awardee, Simone Smith.

Reviewed as “a beautiful song and video” by Prof. Philip Auslander, author of “Liveness: Performance in a Mediatized Culture” (2008/1999), Blue Valentine premiered on the big screen at GLEAM Festival, Glasgow, 10/6, followed by a screening w/ live dance at the CCA as part of Connect Fest! 14/6. I have also presented it alongside papers at popular music conferences held at the University of Agder, Norway (1/6), and the Royal College of Music, Sweden (19/6), and it will be screening again at our Autotheory Conference 2022 at The Tramway, Glasgow, 27/10. I’m officially releasing Blue Valentine online today - 7/7 - on my Instagram page at 8 p.m. BST.

So far, I’ve raised £400 towards fuel and accommodation for the tour/road trip to the Isle of Skye, £500 for mastering fees, and £400 from the Royal Musical Association’s Small Research Grant to buy portable equipment. I have a driver, and a van, a portable projector, and all I need now is your dollars, euros or pounds! Whatever you’ve got, I’ll gladly take it. :))) ♥️✨

Sincerely though, creating a physical release as an indie musician is a fate, in which we many artists will lose money in the process. This will be my third LP, and first physical release. I’ll be doing the artwork and liner notes myself, with handwritten lyrics, manifesto, commentary, and footage from the tour, and so any support you can give at this time would be most gratefully received.

I’m very open to interviews, radio and podcasts, for anyone wanting to find out more about my music or research, just get in touch via my website, or drop me a DM. I’d love to hear from you.

“SPACE JUNK is a cosmic 14-track album of spontaneous songs, spirituals & sonic pioneering, out on digital release, summer 2022. It's a hybrid music and research experiment immortalised on a short vinyl run with packaging and liner notes. The ‘concept’ is emotional debris, and what we do with it. The idea for the title came out of a WhatsApp family thread on space tourism.

All tracks written, performed, mixed, and produced by Sam Lou Talbot at Hunter Hall West Studios, Glasgow, 2021-22. Mastered by Black Bay Studios.

*10% of proceeds will be donated to The Native Wellness Institute based in Oregon. They are "the leading provider of Native-specific and wellness-related training and technical assistance to Native people, communities, tribes, and organizations throughout North America." This is in line with my exploring the album as an expanded form.

*The Space Junk Broadcast Tour is kindly supported by the Royal Musical Association’s Small Research Grant Award, and by the University of Glasgow.”
