"Star Dreams: A New World Awaits" Video Game

Hello, my name is Ronald J. Fontenot, and I am a graduate of Colorado State University with a degree in Electronic Art.  I am also a self-taught composer with 8 years worth of music experience.  Please visit my Youtube channel at Ronald Fontenots Music Channel for examples of my fantasy music.  I have a background in Maya 3d software as well as Adobe Creative Suite.

As with many young people growing up I LOVED video games.  However as a black youth I couldn't help but notice a real lack in characters that looked like me in video games (with the exception of sports games).  So it has always been my dream to change that, to make games that show black people in lead roles.

This gofundme is an effort to make a space adventure game featuring an all black cast of original characters whose goal is to explore new worlds, fight aliens, gather resources and build a society. 







Who will benefit? I believe that this game will not only benefit black youth who play video games, but also all youth who play video games.  Why?  Because it's important to appreciate the perspectives and imaginations of other cultures.  Not only are the characters black, but the writers, developers, artists, composers, and voice talent will be black so that we can tell our story from our perspective.  It's a wonderful opportunity to have fun while learning about other people.

Also, I commit this game to be non-stereotypical.  No negative or stereotypical imagery will be in this game (obviously).

Black artists, voice talent, writers, programmers, and other talent will also benefit with an opportunity for employment.  I don't hold to exclusively hiring black people, but I am looking primarily to hire black talent as our communities really need more job opportunities.



What will the funds be used for?  The funds will be used to purchase a license for Maya, Adobe Creative Suite, Unity (so we have the pro version), and 3D and 2D assets for the game.  The funds will be used to hire pixel/texture artists, 3D modelers, 3D riggers, environmental artists, programmers, voice talent, animators, and more.  The money will also be used to market the game and distribute it.  We will also need a website where we can document our work via blog and promote the game through there.  We plan to make the game available on multiple platforms including consoles, PC, and mobile devices.

How soon will you need the funds?  The sooner we can get the funds, the sooner we can develop the game.



What does support mean to me?  Support for this game isn't just about me or my dreams as a child.  It's about the dreams of millions of people across this country and worldwide.  Positive black images are necessary in gaming and media, and this is a step towards making that happen.  Kids should be able to look up and realize that they can be and do anything they put their heart and mind to.  So this game is much much larger than just what it means to me.  But for me, it would AMAZING to see this dream come true!
