Fight for the Woods

As many of you know the Wood & Jackson family had their worlds turned upside down Friday June 15th. There have been several posts on Facebook regarding Drews story, several prayer requests and even more praise reports! For those of you who haven't been following, Drew is a 4 year old boy who was diagnosed with Leukemia and PreB cell. He has the most common type called Acute lymphoblastic leukemia also known as  "ALL". This is news we were hoping to hear as this is the more common type of leukemia, therefore most often and more easily treated. It is such a blessing that Drew's disease was caught so early. It hadn't even been a week before his mother Mandi, and grandmother Debbie started noticing his symptoms. There is something to be said about a mothers intuition and what the holy spirit lays on their hearts about their children!

Drew has begun his journey in his fight against leukemia and has started it with bravery and courage. He has had several rounds of blood and platelet transfusions and has done very well with them. His mood has been good and he has been able to enjoy the company of many friends and family. This is exactly what he needs right now. Monday June 18th, Drew went in for surgery and received his port so that he can receive his chemo easily and in a non invasive way. While under anesthesia, he had a spinal tap as well as a lumbar puncture in which he received his first doses of his chemo drugs. He also begin an oral steroid. Monday was considered day 1 of Drew's treatment. This first month will be the most intense treatment. At the end of the month, they will be able to determine if he is high, low, or moderate risk.

Drew is currently out of the hospital and back at home. Thanks to a number of sacrificial hearts, the Woods came home to a spotless, pressure washed and completely disinfected house. In a matter of two days, these amazing people turned their home from a risk into a refuge. Since returning home, Drew has had to return to Wolfsons Childrens Hospital to receive more blood and platelet transfusions. This prepared him for his chemo treatments, and second spinal chemo treatment that was preformed today.

As this journey began so unexpectedly, I have been able to witness a families' undeniable strength in the Lord. Through the worst of moments, they are still finding God peace and love. They will not let this storm destroy their family or their faith. Instead, they are relying on Him to carry them through and are choosing to embrace this journey. They are relying on His protection and for His healing hand to rest upon their son, Drew. Their trust is in the Lord!

Within the last 11 days, thousands of prayers have been prayed, several prayers have been answered and lives have been given to Christ because of Drew's story. An increasing number of people have given blood in Drew's name. If all of this can happen in 11 days, I am eager to see what else our Heavenly Father does through the Wood family and through Drew's story.

Thank you ALL in advance for joining me in this journey to spread love and hope to the Wood family. May God bless you ALL!
