Koda's Surgery

Started off with a message for help, a stray dog found in a ditch, in Wardensville WVA and was hurt, maybe a gunshot wound and needed help right away. After a few days of being saved, they waited for someone to claim him, however the neighbor who they believe is the owner didn't claim him. Previously there was another dog too, and it had passed away.

Once we met him, he just licked us and his look was irresistible, this young dog just broke our hearts as we tried to lift him up, and then he helped us by trying to hop with his back leg into our car. When we got him in the car, he made himself comfty and didn't want to move.

We took him into the e.r. vet where we learned a few things about his health.
Approx. 2-3 months ago he had been shot, the gunshot wound has healed up and the body tried to rebuild itself causing him more pain. 
His back right leg is not functional. Lots of muscle has been lost. 
He seems to have an infection is rectal area from not being able to lift up his tail to use the bathroom because part of the bullet is blocking it from moving and it is cauing him a lot of pain. 
Young male lab mix approx. 1 yr old
Now will be needing to have his leg amputated thanks to whoever shot him. 
His blood work was done where they see everything interally/organs not shutting down. 
He was given capstar for the amount of fleas on him and we took off a tick while at the vet, he may have more which we haven't seen because of his beautiful coat they kind of blend in. 
They gave him pain medication (Gabapentin) to take home and an injection(Buprenorphine/Buprenex) while at the vet. 
He needs to be fed a few times a day, little amounts of food at a time until he gains weight, tomorrow they will have a 2nd vet appt. To get dewormed , possibly shots and anything else they need to do prior to the leg amputation.
