Summer of Solutions Hartford coordinates the Urban Farming Internship each growing season. Interns, ages 16+ work together in school, community, and public education gardens for 8 hours a week.
To complement their work in the gardens, all the interns come together each Friday for a workshop series. Our Program Coordinators Sonsharae, Aaliyah, and Tenaya have been working hard this winter to put together an incredible workshop series for our interns.
This year, they re-envisioned the workshop series to highlight the voices of Hartford residents, people of color, and LGBTQ+ experiences. Instead of leading each of the workshops ourselves, most Fridays we will either have a visiting speaker or a field trip. In designing this program, we also wanted to represent a variety of learning styles. You will see from the schedule that some workshops involve writing, art, movement, or discussion.
Our goal for this workshop series is that the interns will be exposed to a variety of local voices and different strategies for creating a just and sustainable community.

We are welcoming 15 visiting speakers this year, and holding three field trips. Here are some of the confirmed speakers:

Where your donation goes:
Your donation will allow us to fairly compensate our guest speakers for their time, staff our workshops, cover materials cost, reimburse drivers for field trip transportation, and make a donation to our field trip hosts.
By the numbers:
Speaker fee for 15 speakers: $1,500
Staffing each workshop with 2 Program Coordinators: $1,440
Donations to 3 field trip hosts: $450
Fee to GoFundMe: $280
Fee to our fiscal sponsor: $200
Supplies for workshops: $130
