SOS: A Benefit for Steve Heronemus

Our dear friend, Steve Heronemus, has been living with ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) for an astounding 14 years when the average life expectancy is between three and five years. You may have seen news articles about Steve over the years.  While Steve’s slow disease progression is very good news, the disease’s drain on emotional and financial resources is tremendous, and my friends are at a point where assistance in providing for Steve’s full-time caregiver is needed so that he may continue to live at home in safety and with his many medical needs addressed is needed. Our goal is to raise funds to cover at least six months of caregiving for Steve, which would be approximately $12,000.  Any amount over $12,000 received will go towards the next six months of caregiving.

 A devoted husband, father of four, and grandfather of two, Steve is also a published author and spends much of his day on his computer advocating for the disabled and providing support to people with ALS (PALS) and their families. He can do all these wonderful things because he has a caregiver who gets him out of bed, attends to all his daily hygiene needs, dresses him, gives him his medications, feeds him through his feeding tube, completes his rigorous daily respiratory care routine, sets up his computer/speech device, connects him to his diaphragmatic pacer, drives him to appointments, and advocates for him. Steve is thankful for each day he wakes up and can get out of bed!
