Help send me and my viola to Europe!

Help me go to Europe with the Blue Lake International Exchange Program! Last summer I attended Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp (BLFAC) in Twin Lake, Michigan and played in the top orchestra with my viola. This coming summer, they have invited me to travel abroad and play my viola in the international orchestra. Please help me be able to take part in this amazing opportunity!

In a typical season, Blue Lake has nearly 1,700 applicants for 400 positions in the International Exchange Program. This is a big honor for me. Our final tour schedule will not be available until April, but the countries we visit will be selected from Belgium, The Netherlands, Luxembourg, Germany, Austria, Denmark, France, Spain and Italy.

In addition to the viola, I also play clarinet in marching and concert band and take piano lessons. Last semester I was the recipient of my school's 8th Grade "Choral Leadership Award" and the 8th Grade Band "Charles Jones Musical Excellence Award," and I have attended music camps at Western Illinois University for two summers. In 2009 I was given the lead role in the opera "Amahl and the Night Visitors" at Western Illinois University. Also, I play in my church's handbell choir and have gone on three summer mission trips, two of which were to Joplin, MO for rebuilding after the tornado.

The repertoire we will be performing this summer is Barber's Adagio for Strings, Brahms's Symphony No.1, Beethoven's Symphony No. 9, Mozart's Coronation Mass, and Copland's Outdoor Overture in six European communities with regional choruses in each location.

In preparation for the trip, I will attend rehearsals at Blue Lake, an eight-hour drive away, throughout the year. Once I arrive in Europe, I will stay with six or seven host families, while performing in many fascinating and famous venues throughout my trip. Please consider attending our July 25 Homecoming Concert at BLFAC!

Thank you for your support!
