Sophie and Tommy's Home Makeover

Donación protegida
7 years ago my kind hearted beautiful sister Sophie got the horrendous news that her beautiful boy Tommy who was 8 at the time had a brain tumour, it was operated on and the surgeons managed to remove 90% of the tumour and he was then to be monitored.  Tommy already had other complications in the brain such as hydrocephalus so he was being seen regularly at Alder Hey hospital.  A few years later she was devastated to hear that the tumour had grown back, he had another one and they were active.  He was to start a gruelling course of weekly chemotherapy, which he underwent for 2 and a half years.  Last October we were all overwhelmed with tears of joy when Tommy got to ring the bell, as his tumours had stopped growing and were under control, which meant no more chemotherapy! However, 12 months on his recent scan has shown that the tumours are active again and he must start chemo immediately.  In just over a week Tommy will be having an operation to put his chemotherapy line back in so he can start the weekly treatment for at least 12 months.  We previously did some fundraising for Tommy and Sophie to help them both with their quality of life whilst Tommy was having this awful treatment.  The money we raised helped them get some rest bite and try and enjoy life doing things Sophie, who is a single mum, would never have been able to afford otherwise.  They went to Rome on a fabulous weekend trip, London to do all the sightseeing and stayed in a beautiful hotel, Sophie took Tommy to a festival, they had fun at the weekends whilst at home, Tommy bought a puppy, who is now his best friend and they had a fabulous all-inclusive family holiday to Greece once his treatment had finished.  We have decided that this time we would like to raise funds to give their home a makeover.  Through the next 12 months and probably more life is going to be very difficult and they will be spending a lot of time at home, which is in desperate need of some TLC.  We all know that when we are feeling down or unwell, snuggling up on a lovely sofa in a cozy home with nice surroundings makes us feel that little bit better.  Sophie was able to start a new job when Tommy finished his chemo, which she absolutely loves and we are not sure if she will be able to hold it down whilst having to care for Tommy through his next round of treatment, but she will try her best.  We don’t want her to be worrying about her washer or cooker packing in and the cost of replacing them, as they are on their last legs, so we want to do what we can to replace the old worn out furnishings and help them enjoy their home.  Sophie really doesn’t want this and is embarrassed about us fundraising, but her family and friends really do want to do this for her and Tommy, so we want to shout out to all of her friends who would like to donate.  We also have a fundraising event on 1st December 2018, which will be a fabulous evening of live music and tickets will be sold at £15 each.  Details to be confirmed but please save the date.
