In the next couple of days, maybe hours, the Governor is going to require that we close our doors, for at least the next few weeks. That requirement will not trigger any catastrophic event that insurance will pay for.

So, what will we do?

This “new normal” will create a new set of abundances and scarcities. There will be a lack of access to good, healthy food, where just the day before, there was an abundance. Many of our Downtown Raleigh neighbors and friends have scaled down their living quarters, go out to eat most nights and have very little storage space for keeping large amounts of food. Some are elderly. Some have young children and zero childcare options right now. We are going to keep cooking for them. We will actually be ramping up our production of safe, healthy meal options to accommodate for the shortages ahead of us. And offering them at affordable prices (or free, for those who cannot afford it right now, including some of our own employees’ families. This is not a time to sit idly by, while officials try to figure out last week’s strategy).

We are being told that maybe, in the long run, unemployment benefits will kick in. Can you imagine those lines? And what will they offer our tipped employees? We have almost 100 gainfully employed, community-minded, bright, young individuals, ready to come together and help out, in a time of crisis. And that’s what we’ll do. We will continue to add our own money to this fund and we hope to join forces with other like-minded hospitality partners to increase awareness and broaden our reach of services to help the greatest number of people in our community as we can.

But this is how we’re going to get started this morning: asking for your help and ramping up our production of ready-to-eat to-go food and safe, healthy at-home meal kits.

For the time being, our restaurants are still open and serving lunch, brunch and dinner. All funds, including gift card sales, will be going toward this same cause of caring for our employees and their families and serving as many safe and healthy meals to our community as we can.

Stay tuned for updates!
