Sones de mi Tierra

Donation protected
Hi everyone!

We, Grupo Folklórico de USC, plan to host our very first showcase, Sones de mi Tierra, on Saturday, March 23. Being a newly reestablished group at USC, we do not yet have the proper funding nor our own costumes to put the show together. With your help, we will be able to purchase our very own costumes, shoes, speaker and anything necessary to put this show together and properly represent Mexican culture. We will also be given the opportunity to bring the community together and display the beauty of diversity through dance and music.

In addition, we hope that with these donations, we can make this group sustainable and finally have a place on this campus. Representation matters and it is extremely vital to represent the community USC resides in.

Any donation is greatly appreciated. Thank you for your support!

A message from a GF de USC Board Member, Brianna Pasillas:

"Hi friends,

This might be a little long so please bear with me.

Two days before our event, we have been notified that the university event services will be charging us with overtime prices on every single service we asked of them, including electricity and clean up. Before today, our group was never notified that our event fell on an "overtime day." We have done our best to fundraise for this showcase all semester and with the new charges, we fall short on the money we need to put on the greatest show possible.

We began this group in order to express our cultural pride on a campus where we make up less than 15% of the population. And now with these overpriced charges, it feels like USC is deterring us from sharing our culture with the diverse college community and the large Latinx community that surrounds this campus.

Our group has been practicing up to 10 hours a week this last month, including spring break, to perfect dances from four different regions in Mexico. Many of our costumes and decorations have been handmade by our members and family, and all we needed from USC was a clear space for us to perform, and they have failed.

We are currently discussing alternatives that come at a cheaper price, but none amount to the vision we had for our very first showcase. So I'm asking: if anyone can donate anything to our group to help us make this show the greatest expression of Latinx culture this campus has ever seen, please donate.

If you read through all that, thank you. And despite the outcome of this financial situation, I hope to see many of you this Saturday, March 23rd, at our showcase at the USC Village Piazza. I promise you, this is an event you don't want to miss!!"
