Rayuela, is a cafe-restaurant in the historic center of Guatemala City. It is known as a safe place for collaborators, among artists, cultural, activists and humanists who have always been consistent in their solidarity practices towards the neighborhood and the community. What they do as a social practice individually, collectively is turning into a movement.
Rayuela, es un café-restaurante en el centro histórico de la ciudad de Guatemala. Se le conoce como un lugar seguro para colaboradorx, entre ellxs artistas, gestores culturales, activistas y humanistas que siempre han sido consecuentes en sus practicas solidarias hacia el barrio y la comunidad. Lo que hacen como una practica social individual, colectivamente se esta transformando en un movimiento.
They have been known for creating a solidarity movement against hunger, La Olla Comunitaria, that spread to other places in the country and beyond and that operated during 6 very difficult months for Guatemala. They continued supporting individuals at Rayuela through their project Café Pendiente and have been key collaborators of other efforts to bring help to the families and communities affected by ETA and IOTA.
A few days ago they were recognized by the Monseñor Gerardi award for their fight for human rights and have been awarded by United Nations. Everyone that has been in Rayuela and know the people who work, go and volunteer there knows that they deserve the best and today they need our support.
Se han caracterizado por crear un movimiento de solidaridad contra el hambre, La Olla Comunitaria, que se extendió a otros lugares del país y más allá y que funcionó durante 6 meses muy difíciles para Guatemala. Siguieron apoyando a las personas de Rayuela a través de su proyecto Café Pendiente y han sido colaboradores clave de otros esfuerzos para llevar ayuda a las familias y comunidades afectadas por ETA e IOTA.
Hace unos días fueron reconocidos con la Orden Monseñor Gerardi a los Derechos Humanos y han sido premiados por las Naciones Unidas. Todas las personas que han estado en Rayuela y conocen a quienes que trabajan, van y se ofrecen como voluntarios allí saben que se merecen lo mejor y hoy necesitan nuestro apoyo.
The morning of Saturday December 12th we woke up to the news that there was a fire, precisely on the day they had planned to re open. While we are waiting for more information, one thing is clear, now it's our time to support.
