Social Justice Summer

Donation protected
I am starting this fundraiser due to the impact Covid-19 has had on my work (and income) this summer and fall.  After two and a half years, (Re)current Unrest- a work about the ongoing cycle of Black oppression- was supposed to tour this fall.  I had commissions to create new work which were related to two new projects I have been developing.  But...the world had different plans...Ironically both projects are so connected to the current socio-political moment so I am seeking other ways to keep the work going.  Like so many of us, these pandemics- Covid-19 and ongoing systemic racism-have left me broke, broken and tired..yet still inspired nonetheless.

To that end,  I am raising funds to support the creation of a dance film of (Re)current Unrest that will premiere this fall and 'tour virtually'.  Unlike the recorded versions of the live performance of (Re)current that I have been sharing online, this iteration will be designed to be watched and experienced through the medium of film/tv.  The goal is to create the immersive atmosphere experienced live cinematographically.  The process will begin in July with the goal of filming and presenting it early fall 2020 (before November elections).  Your support will help pay the collaborators as well as help me with back pay to previous collaborators from the live performances (which I still hope to present when/if immersive live performance is safe/feasible...)

Additionally your support will help me to re-stage my 2010 project
World Headquarters, inspired by the science fiction work of Octavia Butler.  I will be holding a series of online kinetic storytelling workshops FREE OF CHARGE with interested dancers and actors.  Since all of my summer gigs have dried up, I am seeking your support to keep these workshops free as we - develop a kind of 'radio play' that figures prominently into the work.

I can't pretend I am not asking for your support to help me to survive this summer.   I rely heavily on summer employment to make ends meet personally and professionally.  Any support at all would be deeply appreciated given the hard times in which we all find ourselves.  I am hoping to raise at least $5000 before July to get things in motion.  And I know some of you don't like Gofundme...but if you want to support I will happily accept donations via Cashapp: $dtxcharles Your donation would be supporting my ongoing effort to create work dedicated to social justice and to providing tools to others to do the same.  Black Art Matters.
