Alief Early College High School: Garbage to Goods

My name is Adedamola Adejumobi. I am from Houston, Texas. The Social Action Project component within Friends Forever International is to channel the skills we’ve acquired through team building and skill building to tackle a challenge plaguing our community. Food wastage is an issue plaguing our nation. Approximately 133 billion pounds of food is wasted by individuals yearly. Furthermore, despite 16% of our population not having enough to eat in my city, data illustrates that we throw away a third of our groceries monthly. My solution to this issue is establishing food recycling centers in my school and donating collected food to local farms. This project will last six months, starting in December and concluding in May. However, this project is ongoing and will occur yearly. The majority of my budget will be used to acquire permanent recycling bins.
