Snappys for Medford

Donation protected
Like all restaurants in the Greater Boston area and across our world right now, we here at Snappy Pattys feared for the worst upon hearing the news of Covid-19.   We thought we were going to lose everything we have worked for the past 6 years building this business.  However, our great community, our neighbors and friends stepped up to support us in a way we did not expect.  We will survive this as a business because of your support and your love for us as a place in your community.  We are still struggling and continue to need the support of our community, but there are people, individuals, families that are far worse affected by the current situation.  We want to do our part for them.  Upon hearing the recent news that food banks and donation centers across the country are rapidly running out of food for those in need we came up with a plan of action.  Starting Friday April 10th, Good Friday 2020, we will be cooking meals for those in need until May 4th or later if this “lockdown” continues.  We have posted a “Snappys for Medford” menu on our website.  We created several different healthy options to choose from and we want to make sure every single person in our community that needs help, gets help.  There are people quietly suffering all around us that need our support right now and they need everything they can get.  Children who relied on discounted lunch programs at school to eat a full meal every day and their families are in very compromising situation.       I know this because I have been there.  I have in the past received government subsidies such as the SNAP program (food stamps) to help feed my family while my wife and I were still in College and had young children.  I know if this pandemic occurred just 10 years ago I would not be able to support my own family if there were no paychecks coming and we were out of work.  I have spoken to people who have no idea when or where they are getting their next meal from and I have invited them to please come get something from Snappy Pattys.       Many are too proud to admit this, and their reasoning is sound because no one has done anything wrong to create this situation.  There is no shame in asking for help right now because no one is at fault and for those who are hesitant to ask we want to do what we can to keep you and yours from being hungry.  That is all we can do in this and that is why we are doing it.  We are trying to raise money to help pay for the meals we will be providing.  We are going ahead with this plan starting April 10th 2020 regardless because we cannot stand idly by while people go hungry.  We do not want one person in our community without a plate of food on their dining room table come Easter Sunday if there is something we can do about it right now.                  We do not have an exact budget for this plan as we do not know how far and to how many it will reach.  We are starting at $6,000 because the plates we are putting out have an average cost of $6 - $7 for us to produce.  We figure a thousand meals is a good place to start.  This is a not for profit venture. This amount covers the cost of the food, the labor and the take-out containers as we are not allowed to have customers dine-in.  We are also looking for volunteers to help if you are not in a position to financially donate to our cause.  We will utilizing the front section of our existing bar room as a temporary food drive.  If you have any excess canned goods or shelf stable items you would like to drop off for others in lieu of a financial donation, please do so.  We cannot accept food to be cooked for others but feel free to drop off food for others to bring home with them.  Any excess funds after this program expires will be donated to The Greater Boston Food Bank.                 We felt our community come together around us in the beginning weeks of this pandemic.  Now we are calling you to action to come around those who need it more.  We have something we can give and we have something we can do, so we are.  Food is love and we want to spread it to everyone that is currently out of stock.                 This is an honor system program, so if you are reading this because you are in need, call us.  Tell us what you need and we will do what we can for you.  Again, our “Snappys for Medford” menu is up on our website and it can also be found on our social media platforms.  We are open 12pm – 8:30pm every day until May 4th 2020, the current projected end date of the current "lockdown".  All items on the “Snappys for Medford” menu are free for those in need.  We ask you pay what you can and if you are unable, that’s why we are here.                  We ask any patrons coming in to please respect the social distancing guidelines and no more than 3 patrons in the restaurant at a time.  We can curbside deliver to your vehicle if you are unable to come in as we do not have adequate handicap access from our sidewalk into the establishment.  We can also deliver curbside to your vehicle if you do not wish to come inside.
