Breast Cancer;Join Us in this Fight

Don protégé
This year brings new opportunities and new challenges. My fiance Mikayla and I are recently engaged and making big strides for our future. In December 2017 we were faced with a challenge of lifetime but have every intent to overcome and continue to build our future. Mikayla was diagnosed with stage two breast cancer; estrogen and progesterone positive, HER2 negative. Due to her age, 25 at time of diagnosis, medical professionals wanted to start the treatment process as as soon as possible. Within 24 hours of diagnosis we had three appointments scheduled within a weeks time. After the appointment with the oncologist we learned that the tentative treatment plan included 4-6months of chemotherapy, surgery and reconstruction, and possible radiation. She would also have to be on a specific medication for many years due to the cancer being estrogen and progesterone receptor positive. With this diagnosis and all the information we were receiving, we had to think about our future and our ability to have children. We were referred to a fertility clinic to discuss our options and the IVF process. We were fortunate to receive a discounted price on the process but were still faced with thousands of dollars out of pocket due to the non coverage by any insurance. We were put on a time frame due to needing to start the cancer treatment process so we had a weekend to discuss and decide what we wanted to do. Because of our ambition to have a family and be parents in the future we took the risk and decided to go through with the IVF process. Three weeks, many medication injections, labs and one procedure later we were done with the IVF process and ready to start the process of beating cancer.

We are currently in the middle of chemotherapy. The chemotherapy is two different cycles that will last about five months. Treatment started January 10th with the first cycle. Cycle one, Dose Dense AC, is a more harsh treatment that is given once every two weeks for four rounds. Cycle two, Taxol, is supposed to be a less harsh treatment given once a week for twelve weeks. In between treatments we are also going in multiple times for IV fluids in order to help with recovery.

The money raised here will be put to insurance deductibles and medical expenses that insurance will not cover. I will do my best to add updates through our process and this fight against cancer. Thank you for taking the time to read our story. We appreciate any and all support and if you aren't able to donate, please keep us in your thoughts and prayers.
