The Power of Education

Donation protected
My father had a profound influence on my life.  Growing up, his incessant message to my siblings and I was "Education is the key to success." As an educator, I recognize his teachings were fundamental to my own philosophy of education in doing "whatever it takes" to ensure students receive an outstanding education.  Education breaks socioeconomic barriers, and is the window of opportunity that allows  success to flourish. For these reasons, I have decided to fundraise for two causes I strongly believe make a difference in the community through the power of education.

To commence,  my sister was recently appointed the Principal of Assumption Catholic School (ACS) in Perth Amboy, NJ. As an alumni, and advocate for rigorous education,  her innovative vision and transformational leadership potential is galvanizing.  The funds collected will serve to support the implementation of a STEAM program  at ACS.  STEAM programs support innovation in science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics.  While I had some pretty amazing teachers at ACS, at the time, there were little resources to support a program of this magnitude.   The funds will be utilized to directly support the exposure to STEAM programs for ACS students in grades Pre-K- 8th grade.  As an alumni and champion of educaton, I want to give back to the community that gave so much to me!

In addition, I serve as an educator for Jersey City Public Schools at James F. Murray School where I am also the advisor for the Girl Power Club, along with four other dedicated educators.  When I first joined the school community, this club immediately caught my attention as its purpose was to strengthen self-identity, promote female empowerment, success, and career exploration.  Furthermore, we focus on teambuilding, embracing cultural differences, and encouraging talent development.  For these reasons, I love serving as an advisor!  Last year, we served approximately 40 young ladies, and were able to take them on two trips: the African American Museum in Philadelphia, and the Camden Aquarium.  This year, our vision is much grander, and we want to hopefully sponsor another trip out of state that will continue to expose them to the beautiful world we live in and the opportunities that exist beyond their community.

On October 22, 2017, I will be running a half-marathon with the purpose of raising funds for these two organizations that work hard to serve kids wholeheartedly.  I have been training for several weeks, and wish to see these funds used to continue to affect change in the lives of children through the power of education.  Your support is greatly appreciated!
