Smith-Cantrell Hurricane Relief

Beautiful Smith-Cantrell children

When Ken Smith and Aimee Cantrell decided to spend their lives together, one concern was finding the right space to raise their children and create a place where their blended family could thrive. After much searching they found the perfect house and set about making that their home, one that bustled with life, overflowed with love for each other and their friends, and echoed laughter every day. What drew them to this house, a pristine beautiful outdoor space along the bayou has actually provided what has become their greatest challenge.

On August 25, 2017, Hurricane Harvey made landfall in our beloved Texas. As things became increasingly dangerous, Aimee and the kids were taken to safety. One daughter was evacuated with only her work clothes, their son simply packed socks. Ken stayed behind and in the days that were to follow used all of his resources to rescue friends and neighbors in a small fishing boat, which was an exhaustive and continual effort.

This family is kind and generous and loved by all that know them. They are giving of themselves in so many ways. Aimee is a special education teacher who will face unimaginable challenges as she navigates her return to work in a school that has been flooded and tasked with teaching students who have been scattered by relief efforts. These children struggle on the very best of days but now have lost everything.

The Smith's return to their home will be delayed for an extended period. Their first floor is completely flooded, cars under water with weeks until the water is expected to recede. In that time the entire house will be uninhabitable.

Imagine that you were to be unable to enter your neighborhood for weeks or months. What would you need if you only had a few changes of clothes and were staying with other families with very limited resources? The best way to meet their immediate needs will be through monetary donations. Their situation is ever changing and funds will help them in ways yet unanticipated. They will need clothes for work and school, supplies for the clean up, cars to drive and many other countless ways. Please give what you can, every dollar helps, thank you!
