Smart Developments & Livable Neigh

29068308_15257058200_r.jpeg“Concerned Olympians filed a formal appeal on May 23rd in an effort to require City Planners to slow the down the MISSING MIDDLE HOUSING process”

Availability and affordability of housing is important to every community.  Olympia is expected to have a significant population influx in the next few years that needs thoughtful and intentional process to PLAN for development in a way that preserves the character of our existing neighborhoods as well as for the future. Neighborhoods and city residents still need MORE TIME to become informed on this issue  which the City of Olympia is trying to ramrod through approvals. The Missing Middle density upzone proposed by the planning department is the biggest rezone in the history of our city, yet most of our residents know little or nothing about it.

Concerned citizens raised $8,000 in just 30 days to file an appeal and prepare the legal arguments, but more help is needed! The appeal slowed the proposal down, but City Planners remain determined to force this rezoning proposal through.

This group is trying to get the city to do the following:

-Consider all environmental impacts of the wide-reaching proposals and recommend mitigation measures.
-Create a proposal that is not in conflict with goals and policies of Olympia's current Comprehensive Plan.
-Consider reasonable alternatives better suited to protecting the wide variety of Olympia Neighborhoods.

Please take time to inform yourself about the Missing Middle Housing proposal and more information can be found at our facebook page at: https://www.facebook.com/Olympians-Opposing-the-Missing-Middle-Housing-Proposal-2100726683507495/

Our goal with this GoFundMe appeal is to explore legal strategies which force the city planners to go back to the drawing board and to involve the neighborhoods in the discussion of the impacts of the MM proposal.   Help preserve your neighborhoods for your kids and future generations. Please contribute below so Olympian's voices will be heard before the Hearing Commissioner decides the future of our City! (At the conclusion of this action all remaining funds to be donated to Habitat For Humanity)
