Fair Curriculum - equity & justice in the garden

Tax deductible
Help us raise funds to support the development of the much needed Fair Curriculum!

Across the country in thousands of school gardens, teachers get students outside to learn how to plant, harvest, and cook food. Slow Food USA has developed curricula focused on “Good” and “Clean” to provide clear lesson plans to these teachers. The curriculum exists as a virtual tool for teachers and school gardens and is actively distributed to school gardens nationwide, specifically by our chapters within 35+ states. These lesson plans are fun and engaging, but we need to focus specifically on how to teach equity within our food systems to our children. We are looking to develop the Fair curriculum in order to provide teachers with practices and skills to integrate the fair mindset into everyday lessons. The goal is to enhance the objectives for equity, inclusion, and justice to strengthen the three-part series curriculum; Good, Clean, & Fair.

Fair defined by Slow Food USA:
1. Solidarity economies are better for people and the planet. When food systems ensure fair pay and fair working conditions, we balance global economies.
2. Farmers, fish-harvesters, food producers, Indigenous people and other workers are valued as key experts and decision makers.

Funds: All money raised will go towards the development of Fair curriculum to be used across the nation in school gardens. Curricula will also be digitized for increased access to teachers and students.

About: Slow Food’s mission is Good, Clean, and Fair food for all. We believe that in order to enjoy food that is truly good and delicious, we must also treat those who produce it with equity. This is a complex story that requires a keen understanding of history, racial justice in the USA, and the politics of food today.  Slow Food USA is tax-exempt under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Donations are 100% tax-deductible.
