My Name is DeAnna OKert and I am a teacher at Slaughter Elementary. Slaughter Elementary is a rural Title One school located in Slaughter, Louisiana. The majority of our student population stems from a high poverty economic background. Our area was recently affected by a large devastating flood in 2016.
I have the distinct pleasure of serving on a faculty committed to instilling a passion for learning and literacy in our 530 + Pre-k through 6th grade vivacious future community leaders , painters, engineers, teachers, scientists, and doctors!
The Faculty at Slaughter Elementary are on a mission to bring a safe stimulating playground experience to our campus. We are asking for your partnership in this venture to provide funding to improve our playground. The swings are currently broken, the safety fence is broken, and the only option for play in grades 1-6 is a single climbing dome and a set of monkey bars. SES Faculty and Administration intend to use all donated funds to improve our playground, purchase playground toys and enrich the outdoor activity time for our students.
Our classrooms are traditionally four walls brick and mortar however, when our children cross the threshold into our school they enter a positive enriching environment. Many children consider school their safe place and by investing in the playground experience we can help the children create lasting memories. Evidence based research supports the claim that children perform better in the classroom when they can exert an adequate amount of energy on the playground.
