Cancer Treatment

At the beginning of 2018, my mother was diagnosed with Stage IV Colorectal Adenocarcinoma. Her type of cancer being especially volatile, has changed her life, and the lives of those around her entirely. For the last 9 months, she has undergone upwards of 30 rounds of chemotherapy in hopes of eradicating the cancer. Despite her diagnosis, my mother continued to persist at work in order to maintain some normalcy within her life. My mother has been a teacher for over 20 years, and teaching was her one solace within the madness of the last year. At one of her recent visits to the oncologist, it was discovered that new tumors had formed within her abdomen. This meant that her chemotherapy would be increasing in not only dosage but frequency and she would no longer be able to work. My mother has always been a fighter, rising up from whatever circumstances life has thrown her way. Yet, the recent toll the chemotherapy has taken on her body has left her emotionally, mentally, and physically exhausted. She no longer wishes to carry on with chemotherapy and instead is seeking asylum with immunotherapy and other such alternative methods of treatment. Although alternative treatments are rising in popularity and success, they are costly. Most immunotherapy clinics cost upwards of 60,000-100,000 dollars. For anyone who knows my mother, she truly is an example of strength. However, strength comes with a price and I do not wish to see my mother's quality of life diminished or eradicated entirely by chemotherapy any longer. My mother never wanted her children or peers to be exposed to the pain and heartache that comes with watching a loved one suffer. To watch my mother deteriorate and know how much it pains her to be seen as "weak" is something that cannot be tolerated any longer. In my mother's case, anything that can give her at least a part of her life back at this point is worth so much more than what chemotherapy has offered her.  If anyone wishes to donate, these alternative treatments my family and I have spent hours researching and learning about may offer my mother the chance of peace she so much needs and longs for.
