Help us fund the Spirit Dragon for Brushwood Sirius Rising 2019!
Hi everyone. Arches has traditionally designed, funded, and built the Spirit Dragon for the Labyrinth Spirit Ritual every five years (two dragons so far!). These dragons were built for one-time use (though the last one also made appearances in the Sherman Day Parade and a high school play in Erie) and though we’ve tried to store them and re-use what we can from the prior dragon, they suffer from use, storage, weather, and time.
So, for our next iteration we want to build a stronger, lighter, better-lit, and larger dragon than we’ve done before, one that can be used over and over again and then easily stored for further use. And that’s where we need your help. Please donate what you can to our Go Fund Me project for the Brushwood Labyrinth Spirit Dragon.
Funds will go toward building materials (wood, PVC, fiberglass, cloth, paint, lighting and electronics, cables and pulleys, backpack frames, and miscellaneous hardware parts), makeup and costumes, transportation to and from Brushwood (van rentals), storage, and travel costs (gas and tolls) for some of our far-flung build crew to the dragon workshop in Chicago. It will also cover some trial and error as we test out different approaches (it’s not like we’re just buying plans for a 40-foot dragon puppet off the internet and following the instructions).
