Single mum wants medical degree

Hi, My name is Izabel and I am a 2nd year Biomedical Sciences student fundraising online to help me pay for a degree in Medicine.

I come from a very archaic Brazilian family where only the boys were thought good enough to attend university. so I was never offered the chance to attend. I moved over to the UK when I was 18 years old and didn't have a chance to enter university here and ended up falling into a 9-5 travel job which I was not satisfied with . I did that for many years whilst my children were little. Today I find myself single with a teenage son who isn't very well and due to his father taking his own life eight and a half years ago when my so was only eight years old. I have then decided to turn my life around 4 years ago and went back to college to study Medical Sciences as a pre-requisite entry to university with 27 points at distinction, which I achieved. It involved many nights of writing assignments until 1 am due to having to work alongside my studies . For the current Biomedical Sciences course I have been able to get a government student loan to study at Brighton University. However, since I am going to study abroad, there is no loan I can secure with Student Finance England. The reason I am planning on studying abroad, is due to the difficulty and absolute fierce competition for very few places (in proportion with the population) to study medicine in the UK. I have been offered 2 places at the University of Health Sciences in Antigua and Victoria university of Barbados. It will be a 4 year program with clinical rotations at UK hospitals. The program ranges between £28 -£30 K which I will need to pay in 2 instalments yearly. My drive to become a doctor is to be able to underpin community services which are suffering due to the dwindling National Health Service workforce of doctors who, are under incredible strain and many are leaving the profession. There are many people in the UK who cannot see a doctor as around 13,000 doctors gave up their license due to being completely 'burnt out'.

Olá, o meu nome é Izabel e sou estudante do 2º ano de Ciências Biomédicas tentando arrecadar fundos online para me auxiliar no pagamento de licenciatura em Medicina.

Venho de uma família brasileira muito arcaica, onde apenas os meninos eram considerados bons o suficiente para cursar a universidade. então nunca tive a chance de participar. Mudei-me para o Reino Unido quando tinha 18 anos e não tive a chance de entrar na universidade aqui e acabei caindo em um trabalho de viagem das 9 às 5 com o qual não estava satisfeita. Fiz isso por muitos anos, enquanto meus filhos eram pequenos. Hoje me encontro solteira com um filho adolescente que não está muito bem e devido ao pai dele ter tirado a própria vida há oito anos e meio atras quando o meu filho tinha apenas oito anos. Decidi então mudar minha vida há 4 anos e voltei para a faculdade para estudar Ciências Médicas como pré-requisito para entrar na universidade com 27 pontos de distinção, o que consegui. Envolveu muitas noites escrevendo tarefas até 1 da manhã devido a ter que trabalhar junto com meus estudos. Para o atual curso de Ciências Biomédicas, consegui um empréstimo estudantil do governo para estudar na Universidade de Brighton. No entanto, como vou estudar no exterior, não há nenhum empréstimo que eu possa obter com o Student Finance England. A razão pela qual estou planejando estudar no exterior é devido à dificuldade e à competição acirrada por pouquíssimas vagas (em proporção com a população) para estudar medicina no Reino Unido. Me ofereceram 2 vagas na Universidade de Ciências da Saúde em Antígua e na Universidade Victoria de Barbados. Será um programa de 4 anos com rotações clínicas em hospitais do Reino Unido. O programa varia entre £ 28 - £ 30 K, que precisarei pagar em 2 parcelas anuais. Meu desejo de me tornar médica é poder sustentar os serviços comunitários que estão sofrendo devido à diminuição da força de trabalho do Serviço Nacional de Saúde de médicos que estão sob uma pressão incrível e muitos estão deixando a profissão. Há muitas pessoas no Reino Unido que não podem consultar um médico, pois cerca de 13.000 mil médicos desistiram de sua licença por estarem completamente "esgotados".
