Silver Lake Home Loss: Fox Flood

On July 13, 2017, the Fox River rose to a record level and destroyed my mother's home. My mother, who always wears a smile even through physical and emotional pain, has given her entire life to helping others and those less fortunate. She's dedicated so much time and energy into improving the lives of the disabled and handicapped, working with autistic kids, adults and assisting their families. She asks for nothing and has lived off of a bare bones income; yet, she gives her heart and love freely

I was staying with her while on vacation to spend time with family. We woke up that morning with water surrounding the entire home. QUICKLY, the water came up through the floors and vents. We evacuated by walking through waist deep water, the dog swimming with us.   

Three hours later, we returned to two feet of water throughout the entire home (single story home). She is currently displaced and unable to return. This was a rental and flood insurance was not obtainable so she's in need of a new home and household items. Though she struggles to ask others for help, being a "helper", she is in need at this time.

We are so very grateful for the community surrounding us. We truly see the genuine good in others during crisis.  It's an awakening of our spirits in light of the devastation and loss. "Making the most out of life, turns it into more."
