SHS 2019 Rendezvous Monument

The Utah Council of Land Surveyors (UCLS) and the Surveyor’s Historical Society (SHS) are pleased to announce a collaboration to promote Land Surveying and its history in the state of Utah. We are working on an informational kiosk/panel (see Examples on Page 2) to highlight the role of a 19th century surveyor in establishing Salt Lake City and/or the Land Surveyor’s role in the Transcontinental railroad.
Please help support the UCLS and SHS in their effort to promote land surveying together with the SHS 2019 Rendezvous this September.
We are currently pursuing three options for placement of these items.
1. THIS IS PLACE HERITAGE PARK, Highlighting the accomplishments of Orson Pratt Pioneer Vanguard Company Surveyor and Salt Lake City Surveyor.
2. The Utah Railroad Museum, Highlighting the Land Surveyors role in the Transcontinental Railroad, and possibly a Children’s interactive area.
3. A combination of both sites. Depending on space and funding.
We have previously met with both locations and will be working them over the next few months to ensure it will fit with the overall theme of the location.
Donations are greatly needed in order to purchase the materials needed to make each monument memorable to those visiting it.
Currently the budget for both locations is $5000.00
UCLS will be providing a partial match of funds raised in order to ensure this is a quality and substantive exhibit celebrating the legacy of past surveyors
Your donations are needed on or before August 1st, 2019 to ensure we have time to get everything purchased, built and ready for dedication on September 20th.
Any additional funds not used for this project will be donated to the Walter M. Cunningham Scholarship Foundation which is used for educational opportunities for the next generation of Land Surveyor.
We are excited for these items what it will mean for the education and promotion of land surveying in Utah Please help us make it a success.
