Hi everyone!
I am emailing you because recently I was invited to participate in an event called "A Shot For Life," which is a basketball shooting competition that raises money for cancer. It is a two hour long shooting competition where the shooter with the highest percentage at the end is named the winner. Winning means that the person is titled the best shooter in the state and their number gets retired for all ASFL events in the future. Although the event is a competition and brings glory to the winner, its primary focus is to raise money for cancer.
The guy who runs the event started it last year because his mother was diagnosed with brain cancer. The statistic for brain cancer is that in 5 years of having it, 66% of the people die. His mother is in remission right now and doing well. He does this for all the families out there going through what he has been going through in the last year.
This event is special because on the day of it, August 2nd, some cancer patients will be there cheering us on and taking pictures with us. Also, the individual that raises the most money earns a plaque.
